Background
Milder Furniture is the design/build studio of German-American designer Jonas Milder, primarily focused on furniture for work and learning environments. The Milder furniture system began development in the late 1980’s as a graduate school project creating desks and shelving units out of film-faced birch plywood (typically used for concrete forming) and schedule-40 electrical conduit pipes and fittings. Over time the system evolved — conduit was replaced by custom-extruded aluminum tubing, machined aluminum and formed steel hardware replaced off-the-shelf hardware, and film-faced plywood was joined by custom UV coated and inkjet printed plywood.
Our clients ranged from K-12 schools, libraries, and universities including Parsons School of Design, Tulane, Syracuse, and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), offices for companies and organizations including Pret a Manger and the Tenement Museum, and trade show and retail furniture for brands such as Kikkerland.
